Day 1 Arrive in Ho Chi Minh City for a 3 night stay, with the afternoon at leisure. Overnight at Park Hyatt Saigon Hotel
Day 2 Explore this captivating city, still referred to by some as Saigon, where French colonial architecture and landmark moments in Vietnam’s turbulent history come together. Visit the neo-Romanesque Notre Dame Cathedral and the French-style Central Post Office, before continuing to Reunification Palace. In the afternoon, head to Chinatown’s colourful market via the impressive Thien Hau temple.
Day 3 This morning drive to the Cu Chi Tunnels, an elaborate underground network stretching over 200 kilometres. Walk through the area and perhaps venture inside a specially adapted tunnel. In the afternoon, visit the fascinating War Remnants Museum.
Day 4 Drive to My Tho for a boat trip around the Mekong River islands, alighting to view a variety of local industries such as rice paper and coconut toffee making. Overnight at The Victoria Can Tho Resort Hotel
Day 5 Enjoy an early morning excursion to the amazing Cai Rang floating market, the biggest in the Mekong Delta, attracting vendors from all over the region. Sail between colourful boats and perhaps sample some fresh pineapple. Continue to explore the Mekong River Islands, with a traditional flat-bottom wooden boat trip through the smaller waterways, then drive on to Chau Doc. The rest of the day is at leisure. Day 6 Board the shared speedboat shuttle to Phnom Penh, arriving around midday. In the afternoon take a city tour, visiting the Royal Palace and the Silver Pagoda with its incredible floor comprising of over 5,000 silver blocks. Overnight at Raffles Hotel Le Royal
Day 7 This morning take a moving excursion to Pol Pot’s Killing Fields of Choeung Ek and the Tuol Sleng Museum of Genocide, which provide a haunting glimpse into the country’s troubled past. Afterwards, fly to Siem Reap for a 3 night stay. Overnight at Raffles Grand Hotel D’Angkor
Day 8 Visit the crowning jewel of Khmer architecture and Hindu art, Angkor Wat. Built in the early 12th Century but later abandoned and reclaimed by the jungle, it was rediscovered in the 19th Century and is now a World Heritage Site. Enjoy a private gourmet picnic in the grounds, against a backdrop of Khmer temples and pagodas. Continue to the fortified city of Angkor Thom, containing the Bayon Temple where 200 carved faces stare out from the stone, and later visit Artisans d’Angkor to view traditional handicrafts being made.
Day 9 Wat Damnak is one of the most beautiful pagodas in Siem Reap and here you can choose to participate in a private good luck blessing ceremony performed by a local monk. Afterwards, head to the magical Ta Prohm which is slowly being engulfed by the surrounding jungle. Continue to the often overlooked and secluded temples of Preah Khan and Banteay Srei with its intricate carvings.
Day 10 Today is at leisure, with a transfer to the airport for your onward or return flight.
