View Larger Map As diverse and colourful as its culture, Malaysia offers year round sunshine and a huge variety of stunning landscapes including towering cityscapes, the world’s oldest rainforests, idyllic beaches and beautiful, clear waters filled with ancient reefs. And with such diversity comes a real taste of adventure. Stay in five star luxury hotels and shop in ultra-modern malls, before heading for the chic hideaway hotels of Langkawi and Borneo, where you can try swimming with turtles and white-water rafting, or discover hidden temples and spectacular waterfalls. Whatever flavour your holiday takes, you’ll be greeted by the warmest of people and their wonderful hospitality. The capital Kuala Lumpur successfully blends the old with the new, giving the otherwise very modern city centre a unique ambience. Majestic colonial buildings, Chinese temples, royal palaces and traditional street markets all add to the enchanting atmosphere. Famous for its bargain shopping, you’ll also find everything here from designer clothes to electrical goods and exquisite local handicrafts. Take life a little slower on Langkawi, a cluster of paradise islands where award-winning resorts are set on tranquil palm-fringed beaches. Some of the best snorkelling, diving and golf are available here and it’s also a duty-free shopping paradise. For nature lovers Borneo is a definite must. Famed for its abundant wildlife, discover tropical rainforests overflowing with rare flora and fauna, and of course the island’s most celebrated resident, the orangutan. Out and About Whether you stay in the city, head to the beach, or want to get closer to nature, there are a wide variety of activities on offer. Here are a few suggestions. • Get a breathtaking bird’s-eye view of Kuala Lumpur from the sky bridge of the world’s tallest twin structures, the 88-storey Petronas Twin Towers. • Pulau Payar Marine Park, a 1 hour boat ride south east of Langkawi, is a swimming, snorkelling and diving paradise. Its stunning, clear waters are bursting with marine life and colourful coral and its 4 uninhabited islands reveal pristine white sand beaches ideal for sunbathing. • Experience the varied landscape and wildlife of Langkawi at Kilim Nature Park. This area encompasses protected mangrove forests, secluded beaches and stunning blue lagoons and is home to brown eagles, macaques, tree crabs and monitor lizards. • See orangutans in their jungle home and witness the antics of these gentle primates during feeding time, at the 64 acre Nature Reserve at Shangri-La’s Rasa Ria Resort. Food and Drink Malay cuisine includes influences from Indonesian, Indian, Thai, Arabic and Chinese cooking styles, which combined have created a culinary legacy that is both distinct and exotic. Visitors to Kuala Lumpur will find numerous restaurants situated in the vicinity of tourist attractions. The Seri Angkasa Revolving Restaurant in Kuala Lumpur is excellent and at a height of 282 metres, offers spectacular panoramic views of the city. In Langkawi, Ikan-Ikan at Four Seasons Resort Langkawi offers authentic Malay cuisine in a beautiful, traditional setting and for contemporary international dishes, the award-winning Coast Restaurant and Bar at Shangri-La’s Rasa Ria Resort is not to be missed.
