The quirky thatched bungalows of La Pirogue sit amongst lush tropical gardens, on a beautiful one kilometre stretch of white sand beach which it shares with its sister resort Sugar Beach, in one of the best west coast locations on the island. A blend of modern comfort and Mauritian tradition, the resort offers great dining options, a wealth of activities and lively entertainment, with plenty to distract both kids and adults alike.
On the west coast, 60 minutes from the airport.
The 248 rooms and suites are housed in thatched roof bungalows inspired by the traditional Mauritian fishing boats from which the resort takes its name. There are 200 Standard Rooms, with 2 rooms to a bungalow, a number of which can interconnect to accommodate families. Each of the 46 Superior Rooms, located closer to the sea, has a bungalow to itself, while the 2 Royal Suites are even more spacious, with a separate living and dining area and a private garden. All rooms have air-conditioning, bath and rain shower, private furnished terrace, double or two twin beds, LCD flatscreen satellite TV, mini bar, in-room safe, wireless internet access and tea/coffee making facilities. The baths in the Royal Suites include a Jacuzzi.
Chefs at the main Thatches buffet restaurant prepare a range of international cuisine in front of the guests at the various live cooking stations, including an Indian clay tandoor and a wood-fired pizza oven. There are 3 other restaurants: Paul & Virginie is a romantic à la carte affair, Citronella's is a charming little café conjuring up a taste of Italy, while the Tides specialises in serving up the excellent local seafood. There are 3 bars, a swimming pool, tennis courts, aerobics and yoga classes, beach volleyball, basketball, mini golf and watersports including snorkelling, windsurfing, sailing, kayaks and glass-bottom boats. The Sun Kids' Club arranges a number of activities and educational excursions for children aged 2-11 yrs, while @Sungeneration caters for teens aged 12-17 yrs with a host of outdoor adventures, plus regular evening events including barbecues on the beach and pizza nights at Citronella's.
