Marrakech

Morocco's second largest city Marrakech, just a 3 ½ hour flight away, offers new and exciting experiences at every turn. Head to the bustling and lively Jemaa-el-Fna Square, where you’ll find street performers, snake charmers and scores of food stalls, for an authentic taste of Morocco. Then delve into the narrow alleyways of the souk, selling everything from colourful slippers, to handmade crafts, jewellery and lamps of every conceivable size, shape and colour. And when you’ve had your fill of this fascinating city, take a leaf out of Richard Branson’s book and head into the Atlas Mountains for some rest and relaxation.

Out and About
Discover the captivating allure of Marrakech with a selection of our favourite experiences.

• Eat in the ‘open air restaurant’ of Marrakech’s Jemaa-el-Fna Square, where enthusiastic and highly complimentary stall holders will compete for your favour, and once sat down you will be treated to an array of delicious grilled kebabs and Moroccan salads.

• Take a look inside Ben Yusuf Medrasa. Originally a 14th Century Islamic college, its central courtyard of Andalusian style mosaic tiles, carved arches and intricate plaster stucco work is sure to impress.

• Visit Jardin Majorelle and discover a tranquil haven filled with rare plants, winding pathways and gently flowing fountains. One of Jacques Majorelle’s finest masterpieces, he would regularly take his easel into the garden to paint. Restored by Yves Saint Laurent in the 1980s, it is a picture-perfect paradise.

Food and Drink
Moroccan cuisine is diverse, with influences from many different nations and cultures. A typical meal consists of a series of hot and cold salads, followed by a tagine of succulent beef or lamb. Couscous is also widely used, while green tea with mint is the drink of choice for locals. We would recommend the traditional Berber cuisine of Riad Farnatchi's talented local chef and the dishes of La Cour des Lions at Es Saadi Palace, where creative menus incorporate traditional Moroccan techniques and flavours.
