Serene Sri Lanka Tour

Mist covered tea plantations, extraordinary World Heritage Sites and the gentle giants of the Pinnawela elephant orphanage are just some of the breathtaking highlights on this memorable tour. Let us introduce you to Sri Lanka’s warmth and charm through a collection of characterful and luxurious boutique hotels, on a fascinating visit to this beautiful country. Naturally we will be happy to tailor the hotels and itinerary to suit your tastes.

Day 1 Arrive at Colombo airport and meet your driver guide, then head north towards Sigiriya (approx 4 hours), for a 3 night stay. Overnight at Vil Uyana

Day 2 This morning visit the incredible Dambulla rock temple. Built in the 1st Century BC, the complex of five caves includes the largest area of cave paintings in the world and a colossal 14 metre reclining Buddha carved out of the rock. In the afternoon, take an unforgettable elephant-back safari through picturesque Kandalama.

Day 3 Today ascend the 5th Century rock fortress Sigiriya. Rising 200 metres from the scrub jungle, the magnificent Lion Rock was reportedly the innermost stronghold of the ancient fortified town. Climb to the top to view the world-renowned frescoes of the ‘Heavenly Maidens’. Later continue to Polonnaruwa, a former capital of Sri Lanka, to see the ruins of the Royal Palace with its astonishing statues and monuments.

Day 4 Drive to Kandy via Matale, where you will visit a spice garden and view a demonstration of how they are used in local products. On arrival into Kandy, the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings, visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic and see a mesmerizing cultural show, before returning to your hotel for a 2 night stay. Overnight at Kandy House

Day 5 Today visit the famous Pinnawela elephant orphanage and see the elephants bathing in the nearby river. Then tour the stunning 147 acre Royal Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya.

Day 6 Head to Hatton for a 2 night stay, stopping en-route at a tea plantation and tea factory, where you’ll taste what is arguably the best tea in the world. Overnight at Ceylon Tea Trails - Castlereagh Bungalow

Day 7 Day at leisure. Go trekking, biking or white-water rafting, play tennis and croquet, relax by the pool or in the spa and enjoy traditional afternoon tea on the sweeping lawns of Castlereagh Bungalow, with panoramic views across the lake and mountains beyond.

Day 8 This morning stop at Kitulgala, the river location for the Oscar winning film “The Bridge on the River Kwai”, then continue to the historic city of Galle. Tour the city taking in Galle Fort, a World Heritage Site and once the country’s main port, before transferring to your chosen beach hotel or returning to Colombo airport.
