Indonesia is made up of over 17,000 islands, spanning the equator from the north west of Sumatra right through to the south east of Irian Jaya making it the world's largest archipelago. Hugely diverse and wonderfully exotic, variety abounds in Indonesia with the iconic island of Bali at the forefront boasting its lush green valleys, steep rice terraces, dramatic volcanoes that loom over the island and unique culture, due to the island being Hindu rather than Muslim, Indonesia’s predominant religion and culture. Lying to the East is their neighbour Lombok, which is dominated by the active volcano Mount Rinjani looking down over its miles of beautiful sandy white coastline. Further afield, the remote island of Sumba has remained largely untouched and feels a world away, giving wonderful insight into the island’s culture and way of life. If you’re after great beaches, dramatic volcanoes, fascinating culture, beautiful lush green scenery with terraced hillsides and steep valleys, delicious food and world-class scuba diving then Indonesia is for you.
