A true timeless classic and one that should be on everyone’s wish list, Rome, The Eternal City is a treasure trove of cultural and gastronomic delights. It’s hard not to become entranced by the splendour and wonders of Ancient Rome that are still visible in such majesty today in the form of sights such as The Colosseum, The Ancient Roman Forum and The Pantheon, bringing this extraordinary period of history to life. There really is an architectural treasure around every corner in Rome and we’re not just referring to those from thousands of years ago but also those built in modern times, with the city being a renowned centre of design, style and artistry. In our opinion, it’s all about exploring the city on foot as not only are many of the city’s highlights easily walkable from each other but along the way you could take your time and explore hidden streets and piazzas, stop off for some delicious gelato or marvel at an exquisite hidden fountain. Don’t worry if you’re not utterly fascinated by culture and history as Rome has so much more to offer. The bustling markets and chic boutiques certainly warrant a healthy dose of time and let's not forget the food, which Italians are so very proud of and which will certainly keep you sustained during your city activities. Rome is very much a year-round destination although it can get rather steamy in the summer months. Our favourite times of year are spring and autumn when you can really have more of the city to yourself we would also highly recommend a short break during the winter months. With such a comprehensive rail network to rely on in Italy, Rome is easily combined with many of the country's other highlights such as Tuscany, the Amalfi Coast or even Venice. Be it for a short break, or as part of a longer luxury holiday we are sure that this fascinating city will continue to draw you back time and again.
