Conjure up an image of Santorini and we’re sure you are seeing luxurious white-washed houses with blue-domed roofs, sparkling in the sunshine. This is Oia, the iconic image of Greece and a beautiful, small town in the north of the island whose cobbled streets are lined with stylish boutiques and jewellery shops. The island itself hugs the edge of a giant, sunken caldera, a lagoon filled with turquoise Aegean Sea formed by one of the largest volcanic eruptions in history. Above this, from the main town of Thira, you can sit in one of the many restaurants and bars that cling to the soaring cliff-edge and admire one of the Mediterranean’s most-photographed sunsets.
