This half day tour is a unique opportunity to experience the historic heart of the city on foot, all the while learning about South Africa’s dramatic history. We start the day in the historic old city where we set the scene for our story of Dutch and British rule, slavery and apartheid, freedom and democracy. We’ll meander through the Company’s Garden, Grand Parade, the City Hall and Castle of Good Hope, lively Greenmarket Square, now home to a bustling African curio market and the Slavery precinct which includes the Slave Lodge and Church Square. We also learn the story of District Six and visit the Bo-Kaap (Malay Quarter) with its colourful houses and quaint cobbled stone streets.

If there’s one thing you must do while in Cape Town then this is it. We recommend that you don’t fix on a day to do this in advance but rather pick your moment. Due to the local topography and climate, Table Mountain is sometimes covered in a white cloud, known locally as the Tablecloth, which makes for very picturesque viewing from down in the city but somewhat blocks the view from the top of the mountain.
