Located high up on a hillside on Sicily’s east Coast, Belmond Grand Hotel Timeo was the first hotel to be built in the town of Taormina and is directly in front of the town’s famous ancient Greek theatre.
Views from the hotel’s Literary Terrace are unsurpassed, not only of the sweeping coastline dropping before you below but also of the mighty Mount Etna which broods over the town.
The main building is set within large parklands and gardens, where you can find the beautiful outdoor swimming pool and intimate spa. The luxury of such space and panoramic views, combined with being just a short walk to the centre of Taormina certainly makes this hotel just that little bit more special.
The style is classic Italian grandeur; the rooms, which are located both within the main building and the charming Villa Flora, a few minutes’ walk away, are elegantly furnished with marble bathrooms and many have private balconies or terraces with that wonderful view.
The main restaurant can be found on the large terrace and the focus here is on fresh local Sicilian produce, with a delicious Mediterranean menu combined with an impressive wine cellar specialising in locally-produced Sicilian wines. Other outlets are the Literary Terrace and Bar, so-called due to it being such a popular meeting point for famed artists throughout the years, and the Pool Restaurant.
Encapsulating a great deal of Sicily’s renowned historical significance, you’d be hard pushed to find a more unique and exquisite hotel in Taormina.
