Our Europe expert, Brydie Boulton, stayed at luxury hotel group Anantara’s first hotel in Europe, the fabulous Anantara Vilamoura in the beautiful Algarve region of Portugal. Recently opened, Anantara Vilamoura has certainly lived up to the hotel group’s stellar reputation. Brydie, who has stayed at other Anantara properties in Asia, was eager to see what Asian influences were being brought into this Portuguese resort, and she was completely blown away by her experience:
”Upon arrival at Anantara Vilamoura I instantly spotted Anantara’s signature Tuk Tuk’s, which are used to take guests around the property as they please, back and forth from the pool or to dinner – they add such character to the resort. We were taken straight to the check-in suite where we enjoyed traditional tea and Portuguese delicacies, a much welcomed and refreshing treat after our journey. I was delighted with our suite which felt like the most luxurious home away from home during our stay. The suites are modern in design and offer all the luxurious touches typical of an Anantara resort; large mirrors, slick cut furnishings and an ultra-modern bathroom. The highlight of my suite was the fabulous view from the comfy day bed on my balcony overlooking the pool area and golf course beyond – I could have stayed there all day!
Something really special about the resort is its very calm atmosphere, which washes over you as you relax at the main pool area, which is lined with luxury day beds in partnership with Veuve Clicquot Champagne – the perfect setting for a tranquil day in the sunshine. With attentive pool service, comfortable sun loungers and pool side dining completely spoiling guests, you’ll want for very little else. There’s also a newly opened adults-only pool area and a separate small paddling pool near the family pool, so every guest is content from the couples to the little ones.
One of Anantara’s most impressive features is its spa, although I’d expect nothing less from a hotel group that is renowned for its award-winning spas. This enhanced by a large indoor pool area and gym which in 2018 will be open 24 hours a day – spa and fitness lovers will be spoilt for choice. There is an extensive treatment list at the spa and for something a little romantic, a couples massage in one of the couples treatment rooms would be perfect. Treatments are a blend of Anantara’s signature rituals with Mediterranean touches, from the timeless Turkish hammam rituals to a personalised Asian treatment, this is the perfect place to indulge whilst taking in the impressive lush golf green views.
What I found most exciting about this hotel is the recent partnership with Worldwide Kids Company, making this a fantastic option for a family holiday in Europe. For 2018, the hotel will have a fantastic children’s club overlooking the golf course which offers the most wonderful facilities for the little ones. There is something for each age range from babysitting to a crèche club, kids club and football and dance academies. There is so much for children to avail themselves with whilst adults can enjoy the expansive Asian-inspired Spa, golf course or adult-only pool area.
On the hotel’s doorstep lies the expansive golf course, just moments away for guests to enjoy, or a short 10 minute drive takes you to the marina of Vilamoura, which guests have complimentary access to until midnight each day. Thanks to the property’s sister hotel, Tivoli Vilamoura, guests can also take advantage of complimentary drop off and pick ups, so the delights of Vilamoura and its many restaurants, boutiques and bars are within easy reach.
I am excited to hear further developments on this resort and for the 2018 summer season – this is going to be the most wonderful option for a couple or small family seeking a short break, just 2 hours from the UK. Anantara most definitely did not disappoint and we have our eyes out for more European hotel openings.”
