On this scenic trip around the south west of the island of Mauritius you will discover spectacular changes of scenery, revealing some of the island’s unique natural assets.
Start your day on the mountainous region at the heart of the island. Upon arrival at the highest point in Curepipe, admire the view overlooking the dormant volcano “Trou aux Cerfs” now home to an abundant plant life.
You will then move on to a completely different landscape during your visit to the sacred lake of Grand Bassin, place of worship to the Hindu community. Take a moment to learn about its mysterious legend. Your nature escapade takes you on to Black River Gorges, a real sanctuary of endemic fauna and flora. At the “Rhumerie de Chamarel”, a local rum distillery, the secret of rum production will be unveiled, concluding with a rum tasting session. Your taste buds will be further indulged by fine Mauritian cuisine during lunch at l’Alchimiste restaurant.
To bring your day to a charming end, you will be taken to the spectacular coloured earth of Chamarel, a unique geological phenomenon, complete with its waterfall and surrounded by lush vegetation.
