Costa Rica Family Adventure
Costa Rica’s enchanting natural environment makes it a perfect adventure playground for kids. Exchange the iPad for a zip-line or a kayak and enjoy an active family holiday together.
Below is an example itinerary, but everything we do at the Private Travel Company is tailor-made and not guided group tours.
On arrival into San José you’ll be transferred to the charming Hotel Grano de Oro where you’ll overnight.
After breakfast, you’ll leave for Manuel Antonio National Park, one of Costa Rica’s most picturesque parks, where you’ll spend three nights at Arenas del Mar, a superb beachfront resort.
Days 3 & 4
You’ll spend these two days discovering the natural wonders of Manuel Antonio. Take to the water with a guided kayak tour to Damas Island where you’ll explore the mangrove ecosystem and encounter monkeys, reptiles and numerous species of birds, including herons, ospreys, kingfishers and frigates.
Back on dry land, a qualified naturalist will accompany you on a hike through the national park, pointing out the many different animals that live here and sharing their extensive knowledge of the animals’ behaviour and habitat. Common sightings include white-faced capuchin monkeys, howler and squirrel monkeys, sloths, racoons, reptiles and plenty of birds.
During your free time, relax on the beach at Arenas del Mar or enjoy the beautiful views from the hotel’s pool perched up on the hillside.
In the morning, a private transfer will take you north to Arenal, the adventure capital of Costa Rica. Spend the afternoon settling into your hotel, the Tabacón Thermal Resort & Spa, where you’ll be based for the next two nights. You’ll have plenty of time to explore the natural thermal pools and waterfalls that are heated up to 40°C by the nearby Arenal Volcano.
Days 6 & 7
On your first morning in Arenal, you’ll set off for an exciting half-day white water rafting excursion on the Balsa River. Your professional river guide will help you negotiate the rolling rapids, ensuring a fun and safe experience for all the family. You’ll also have the chance to swim in tranquil pools in an isolated rainforest canyon.
The next morning you’ll head to the Sky Adventure Park where you’ll get to experience the most thrilling zip-line track in the country, stretching across canyons and in between the treetops.
In the afternoons, relax at the hotel, enjoy the spa facilities or explore the nearby town of La Fortuna.
Days 8 - 11
After the thrills and spills of Arenal, the pace slows as you head west to the Guanacaste coast to enjoy a few days of rest and relaxation on the beach at the Four Seasons Resort. With two golden sand beaches, excellent restaurants and a host of luxurious facilities, including a golf course and spa, this is the perfect place to unwind.
Transfer to Liberia airport for a short flight back to San José to connect with your flight home.
